Demand for security experts grows as businesses face growing cyber risks
With ongoing cyber threats and businesses scrambling to protect sensitive data, professionals with cybersecurity skills are more important than ever.
In fact, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center received more than 850,000 complaints about suspected internet crime in 2024, with reported losses exceeding $16 billion.
To meet this growing need, Macomb’s Cybersecurity Bootcamp, developed by industry experts, equips students with the skills they need to defend critical information and stay ahead.
Learn cybersecurity skills that employers need
The intensive, instructor-led course prepares students for the CompTIA Security+ certification, one of the most respected credentials in the industry.
The fast-paced session, which lasts one semester and meets remotely, is geared toward individuals with prior IT knowledge, training or experience. Applicants are required to complete a brief application at registration.
“IT roles are changing at such a fast pace. Opportunities like this help keep your skills fresh and add additional credibility to your resume,” said Ellen Lux, director of Workforce and Continuing Education.
Limited-time cybersecurity training through grant-funded initiative
Through a limited time grant-funded initiative, Macomb is offering the course at a discounted price of $95. Once the grant funds are exhausted, the course will return to its original price of $2,499.
Students who complete the course will earn a certificate of completion from Macomb and have the chance to sit for a proctored CompTIA Security+ certification exam. Additionally, those who are pursuing an associate degree at Macomb may earn three course credits.
This program is ideal for IT professionals who want to add cybersecurity to their skillset, recent IT graduates looking for industry-recognized credentials, employers who want to invest in their team’s cybersecurity expertise, and others.
“Cybersecurity roles are among the fastest-growing and best-paying jobs in tech. Adding this to your resume demonstrates your commitment to continuous learning and gives you a competitive edge in the job market,” Lux said.
The Cybersecurity Bootcamp is a remote course that meets twice weekly from Jan. 27 to April 16 from 6 to 10pm. Cost is $95. To register, visit Macomb’s Workforce and Continuing Education website at .
