ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï expands maritime skilled trades program, offering evening training

Beginning on Dec. 15, ºÚÁϳԹϒs Michigan Maritime Manufacturing (M3) program will be offered both during the day and evening. The accelerated training program prepares individuals for earning industry certifications and entry level CNC or welding positions, which are in high demand throughout southeast Michigan.

As part of a $15.4 million investment by the Navy, all class and supply costs are covered for the initial 384 individuals accepted into the program. Students complete intensive, hands-on training in Macomb’s maritime skilled trades center located at the college’s Michigan Technical Center in Warren, the college’s headquarters for engineering and advanced technology workforce development.

“Our goal is to mirror the real manufacturing environment as closely as possible,” said Valerie Corbett, assistant director of special programs, Engineering and Applied Technology Workforce and Continuing Education. “Everything from the 40-hour training week to the practical hands-on experience is designed to prepare students for what they’ll experience on the job.”

Both day and evening program run for 17 weeks, requiring attendance for 40 hours each week, Monday through Friday. The daytime program runs form 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., while evening classes are 3:30 – midnight.  The next set of day and evening program cohorts start on Feb. 9, 2026.

M3 provides residents with the opportunity to complete free training that qualifies them for rewarding, well-paying and in-demand jobs in the metro Detroit area. It also contributes to developing a deep talent pool for local maritime industrial base employers, sustaining and growing local industry.
